Serving St. Matthew's

The Reverend Ann E. WoodAnn Wood has been an Anglican since she was baptised as a baby in the UK during World War II. She immigrated to Canada with her husband in 1966 and moved to South Slocan in 1968 when Peter joined the teaching staff at Selkirk College. She began worshipping at St. Matthew's Church, South Slocan, in 1969 and has done so ever since she began Lay Ministry of Word and Sacrament work in the early 1980's and has been taking services for the past twenty years or so. She also became the organist in 1984.
It was in 1993 that we began the discernment process for Mutual Ministry in Kokanee Region with the Rev. Dirk Pidcock. As a result of this, in 1994 she agreed to accept the position of local priest for St. Matthew's congregation, should Bishop David Crawley and the ACPO team accept her. Subsequently she was ordained as a transitional deacon in Dec. 1996 and as a priest in May 1997. At that same service in May, the rest of St. Matthew's congregation were commissioned as a Mutual Ministry team. Rev. Ann was licensed by the Archbishop to preside in any of the Kokanee Region churches, but usually presides at St. Matthew's on a weekly basis. She also presides at St. Saviour's Church once a month.
Rev. Ann is still the organist for St. Matthew's. She presides and plays the organ at the regular Sunday services for a small but faithful congregation. When called upon to do so, Rev. Ann takes funeral services, baptisms and weddings.
